Controlling Allergies Naturally

North Tabletop Mountain, Butte County, CA
"Achoo!" "God Bless You!"
Tired of the assault on your body when springtime hits? Many people run for the Claritin or something similar to relieve their allergy symptoms this time of the year. But those medications come with side effects. I remember once taking an anti-histamine to relieve a runny nose. The result: it felt like my nose had been rooter-rootered and the Sahara Desert had moved in. It was a very uncomfortable feeling.

I married a guy who was highly allergic to everything... and I mean everything. Grasses, molds, dander, dust, pollens, etc. Got him out of mowing plenty of lawns. Some years ago I discovered grape seed extract or OPC (Oligomeric ProanthoCyanidin). Although you find most OPC extracted from grape seeds, the compound can also be found in a variety of fruits and vegetables as well as pine bark and green tea.

Grape Seed Extract: A Natural Solution
The significant feature of grape seed extract (GSE) is its powerful antioxidant properties. When allergic reactions occur in the body there is a release of inflammatory chemicals called histamines. These chemicals are the result of oxidative damage in the body. Because of the antioxidant properties of GSE, there is a reduction in the formation of histamine naturally with no side effects.

The reduction of free-radical damage and oxidative stress realized by taking GSE suggests it may be particularly effective in reducing the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and a number of chronic diseases associated with aging. Laboratory tests have shown GSE effective in cancer cell death.

No More Allergies
Back to my husband. We started taking GSE about eighteen years ago and soon he no longer needed to go for allergy shots. That's a good thing because he was never able to go the full build-up of shots and always had to start over again. And now that we have no lawn to mow... funny how that worked. Lucky guy!

One more thing. If you take GSE, you should take a saturation dose for one to two weeks to start. It entails taking 100 mg per 35 pounds of body weight each day to saturate every body tissue with the antioxidant. For example, a 145 pound person would take four 100 mg capsules per day for one to two weeks. Then follow the recommended dosing on the bottle.

Most people find they get some relief from their allergy reactions within the first week of taking GSE.

Are you looking for relief from allergies?

  3. As a former lawn-mower and severe allergy sufferer, I attest to the benefits of OPC AND keeping a healthy life-style/food-style.
Now whenever I go running outside in the spring, I try to remember the OPC and it works.
